Working out great, filled them with sand, very stable.
Has held up my abba 9x12ft cantilever umbrella very well. Easy to assemble. Gets the job done!
the weights are insufficient on a windy day. they don't lock into the stand, only sit on top of a narrow strip of the stand
THIS IS STURDY AND WHAT IT WAS EXPECTED. EXCELLENT PRODUCT I RECOMMEND
The four base components each need to be filled with sand and then water to have as much weight as possible. Filling with sand takes quite a while, at least 40 minutes per unit. You want to have as much weight as possible to help keep the umbrella from blowing over. Filling with sand takes a while and is tedious work. I bought a sturdy funnel at Ace Hardware to help in this process and four 50lb. bags of play sand. I scooped out the sand with a garden trowel into the funnel, but the sand doesn't just slide down the funnel and into the base. I had to use a dandelion digger to constantly keep it flowing through the funnel--not fun. Also, I kept tapping the base on the concrete floor to get the sand inside to settle into all the inside nooks and crannies. You'll have to allow some time for this and take a break once in a while because it's boring work, but eventually you will get about 50 lbs. of sand into each base. I also used a garden hose at the end of each filling to add more weight inside and to take the weight up to about 55 lbs. Although it gets to be a lot of work, the end result is worth it. The umbrella itself assembled quite easily, although the directions in the box were quite worthless. There is a video available online that is much more helpful. I watched it 2-3 times and then put it together. I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of operation and the umbrella seems well made. I like the sturdy metal spines and the overall construction. You'll need some muscles to handle the 4 filled based units and the umbrella, so take that into consideration too. I'm very satisfied with the purchase.
There's simply too much wind for this base to hold the larger umbrella in any strong wind. My daughter had a brilliant idea which was to cover the stand with four medium sized potted plants, which ended up making the base much nicer looking and very sturdy, even in strong wind. At this point, the umbrella support would likely bend before the stand moved.
Was concerned about trying an umbrella with this type of base but, it is very sturdy if you fill with a combination of sand and water.
This is a really good base.
We bought these with the intention of filling with sand (and I'm sure we will before it gets cold), but filling with water has provided the support and stability we were looking for.
I bought three of them. It serves its purpose well, however it is difficult to add sand to the small opening. It also is not very attractive to look, at but it does a good job holding the base in place even during winds.
I bought this base for my 8ft umbrella. It's best to fill with sand and then add water. It's been through several storms and the umbrella remains sturdy.
Worked perfectly to keep my umbrella stable. Recommend filling with pebbles for extra weight.
Great product, and easy to assemble. Attached to the umbrella with no issue.
Filling with sand to the top and adding water I got 55pds each square - not exactly 238-but I think it will work. Used it with the Tangkula Umbrella and it fits like a glove. Should hold up nicely - but if for some weird reason it does need more weight - I saw other people put designer pavers on top...which the base could easily handle. If your getting the Tangkula Umbrella - get this. The regular base (like all of these types of umbrellas) will not hold in wind without more support than is provided. This is the best option - looks great and works as advertised.
